How To Get Your resume Noticed

When you submit your resume online, yours will probably be one of hundreds trying to get the same job. So here are some ways to get your resume noticed!

1.USE A SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS SECTION ON YOUR RESUME - This is almost never done!! This is four to six sentences that briefly describe your background experience and strongest skills to do the job. Believe it or not, your resume will probably only be reviewed, or should I say "scanned" for four to six seconds. A summary would make it much easier for the potential employer to see who you are and know whether or not you can do the job.

2. Be sure that the resume and cover letter is applicable to the job that you are applying for. - I have seen cover letters stating that they were interested in working at a completely different type of job than the resume is being sent for. That's a turnoff! Yes, its a lot of work but try to tailor your resume to the specific job that you are applying for.

3. Don't use email addresses that are not representative of the image you are trying to portray to a potential employer! -  Email addresses like sexmachine@gmail.com or sexydoll@hotmail.com are a turnoff. Try to use addresses that include your name or something more professional. Otherwise, you may be rejected.

4. Use good grammar and spelling in your resumes and cover letter. -  If you are not good at it, ask someone to help! There are even websites now that will correct the grammar on your documents. One of them is called *grammerly* and they will do a basic screening for free!

5. Be sure the resume is clean and neat looking. - I have seen photos of a resume with dark marks and lines sent for consideration. Its a turn off and is likely to be rejected.

6. Highlight the qualifications and experiences that apply to the specific job you are applying for so they stand out. For example If you are applying for a job as a secretary, don't put your job as a security guard first. If possible, try to highlight any work or training that you had done as a secretary first.

7.Your resume should not be too long. Short and to the point is best.-  One page is ideal! When you have hundreds of resume to look through you don't need an encyclopedia to review. Stick to the key and important points that are relevant to that particular job opening.

8. If possible, address the cover letter to the human resource director. -  Use their name if you know what it is. It would make your resume stand out!

9 . NOW IF YOU REALLY WANT YOUR RESUME TO STAND OUT, HOW ABOUT PRESENTING (WHEN POSSIBLE) THE NEWEST FORM OF RESUME, IN ADDITION TO THE RESUME ON PAPER ------. A VIDEO RESUME!!! If you are good at technology, good communication skills and present well, or know someone who can help, why not create a 60-90 second video resume. Its a video of you dressed professionally telling the key points of your education, skills, and career including briefly all the key points of your resume. If you have never heard of a video resume look it up online! I guarantee that if you send a VIDEO RESUME it is VERY LIKELY that your resume will be reviewed and if you are suitable and qualified for the job, and a better chance for an interview.
